Singer of the Month is a very special and prestigious place to
be as far as we are concerned.  Judging holds within it very high standards.
Are you working daily to become a master?  Not for ego, but for the artistry?

Please support these artists and their work.  An artist is chosen on many
things, but of course, vocal tone and quality, and whether they take us
on "the heavenly audio ride" are important qualities.

Fiona's vocals are amazing, and the musicality
she brings to each song is a great audio treat.

We understand that great singers are masters at music and
storytelling.  Fiona has many great stories to share with you...some
of our criteria for Singer of the Month begins with "is the voice moving?", and
then goes into pure tonal quality, great phrasing, and the emotional pull of
the voice within the song.  Singers who work daily for hours and then work
more and more, striving to find the magic.

We love Fiona's sound, her commitment and passion.  Plus, it is
important to find singers WORLDWIDE to expose us to what is out there besides
what we are used to.

Fiona has just  been selected to represent Scotland in the West European Final of Nos Ur Cometition for Minority Languages, taking place in Inverness in June.( www.nos-ur.eu)  This is a major song competition which promises a very interesting and exciting gig! 2 winners will go forward to the World final in Sweden in October.

Living in the Highlands of Scotland, Fiona is one of Scotlands best known Gaelic singers and teachers of Gaelic song. She is known for her haunting, pure, clear, bell like vocal tone and her technical mastery of the voice and it is no wonder that she won Gaeldom's premier award for Gaelic Singing, The Gold Medal in 2005, the same year she won runner up in the International Song Contest at the Pan Celtic in Ireland, with a self penned song. She works for Highland Council as the Mairi Mhor Gaelic Song Fellow, with which she develops opportunities for Gaelic Singing activities in schools and communities. She also produces new resources to help make Song as accessible to all. She is known as one of Gaeldoms hardest working Song promoters and is filled with a passion which comes over in her singing. What makes this even more remarkable is the fact that Fiona is not a native born Gael but learned the language as an adult and took it to heart - her children are now all fluent Gaelic speakers and Gaelic musicians.

She has released 3 albums, the latest being the ground breaking Duan Nollaig on Greentrax the worlds first ever Gaelic Christmas album. Fiona wanted this album to be different to any other Gaelic album and to reach across to new audiences and so employed  well known rock musician  and MD Irvin Duguid ( www.irvinduguid.com) who freely admits he knew nothing about Gaelic before working with Fiona 'no pre conceptions' is their motto the album received fantastic reviews, extensive airplay even being played on Radio 3 on Christmas Eve, a first for Gaelic song -  and showcased on an hour long TV show on National TV the week before Christmas, filmed in HD. She also showcased the songs at a concert in Bonn , Germany the weekend before Christmas.  Irvin and Fiona surrounded themselves with only the very best in musicians for the album, traditional and rock/jazz and the quality shines through mixed and mastered by the legendary Calum Malcolm, the album simply sparkles. Fiona tailors her concert sets to suit the musicians who are available and to what the gig itself requires, from simples unfussy and beautiful a capella  (introduced with the stories behind them), lovely clarsach aor a full trad rock backing!
Fiona is well known for her lecturing and teaching across Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Europe and North America. She has performed at Tartan Week, New York on several occasions, at the Lorient Festival, Brittany, Shottfest, Holland, the International Eisteddfod in Wales, North Carolina, and in the Library of Congress, Washington on September the 11th 2006, amongst other Festivals.
She broadcasts for other TV shows regularly and also hosts a Gaelic Song show on Scottish Internet Radio The Kitchen Ceilidh.
She is also one of the (very) few Gaelic singers to have an entry on Wikipedia!!!!
